Discounts on invoices
A discount on an invoice reduces the taxable amount, so apply it before VAT. The invoice generator does this automatically and spreads the discount across VAT rates. For pricing, see the margin calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a percentage of a number?
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. 15% of 200 is 200 × 15 ÷ 100 = 30.
How do I calculate a percentage increase?
Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. From 1,200 to 1,500 is (1,500 − 1,200) ÷ 1,200 × 100 = 25% more.
Is 20% off plus 10% off the same as 30% off?
No. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: 100 becomes 80, then 72. That is 28% off in total, not 30%.
How do I work out a sale price?
Multiply the original price by (1 − discount ÷ 100). 25% off 80.00 is 80 × 0.75 = 60.00.
